Microscopy Laboratory Services

Our Clinical Microscopy Laboratory is a branch of U & I diagnostic Laboratory that performs chemical, macroscopic, and microscopic examinations of various body fluids other than blood. Fluids requiring such detailed analysis are typically urine, semen, and stool.

One of the most common types of clinical microscopy tests performed is urinalysis which provides valuable diagnostic information concerning both renal and non-renal-related issues. During urinalysis, several tests are used to detect and measure various compounds that pass through the urine. The urine first passes through a visual examination where color and any cloudiness may be noted. A sample is then examined under a microscope to check for any cells, urine crystals, urinary casts, mucus, or other substances. A chemical analysis may also be implemented to check for specific substances within the urine.

In addition to urinalysis, fecalysis and semen analysis are services offered by the clinical microscopy laboratory. Fecalysis (analysis of stool) is important in the early detection of gastrointestinal issues, liver and biliary duct disorders, and mal-absorption. Semen analysis (or semenalysis) is extremely important in studying sperm count for fertility and assessing the status of post-vasectomy cases.
